Responsibility for society and the environment
Climate and environmental protection, resource conservation and social responsibility are essential components of our corporate actions. We are working to consistently align all tasks, products, guidelines and processes of the IBB Group in a sustainable manner. Our goal is a liveable, viable and sustainable Berlin.
Sustainability is a topic which, like no other, has shaped the past two decades. The growing scarcity of resources, accelerated climate change and ecological catastrophes all call for change. After all, we know that the only way to preserve our livelihoods is to make protecting the environment and climate our primary goal. Sustainable living is one of the greatest challenges of our time. For Europe. For Germany. For Berlin. And, of course, for the IBB Group too!
Sustainability strategy and management
Based on the public mandate and business model of IBB Unternehmensverwaltung (IBB UV), the issue of sustainability has been a central part of the company’s business activities since its establishment. We have anchored our sustainability strategy in our business strategy.
Sustainability is implemented throughout the IBB Group by a sustainability management system that is centrally organised by Investitionsbank Berlin (IBB). IBB delivers the most important input for all sustainability efforts, even though IBB UV is the responsible body.
Sustainability goals of the IBB Group
Our key fields of action form the basis for our sustainability strategy. The fields of action focus on the following four topics, which are simultaneously integrated into the business process and closely interlinked with the business strategy.
The sustainability principles established for each of our fields of action form the basis for our sustainable actions. This is to enable us to systematically achieve lasting and self-sufficient sustainable development. They serve as a guideline for sustainable action throughout the IBB Group.
The most important medium-term sustainability goals for the IBB Group:
- Support for a 'Climate Neutral Berlin' by 2045
- Be the most important contact point in Berlin for 'sustainable funding opportunities' by 2030
- Enable EUR 15 billion in sustainable funding based on the SDGs by 2030
- Integration of the SDGs into all fields of action of the IBB Group
- Neutralization of our emissions from bank operations
- Achieve the goals and measures laid down in the sustainability programme

The IBB Treasury Sustainability Guideline is valid from 01 January 2024.
Anti-discrimination policy
We have resolved an anti-discrimination policy in 2022 to strengthen diversity and reduce discrimination that occurs (in German only).
Our contribution to the SDGs
The IBB Group is committed to the 17 global Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) adopted by the United Nations (UN) in 2015 and applies them transparently and measurably to its areas of activity. By referring to the SDGs, the IBB Group highlights how its financing activities make a sustainable contribution to the further development of our environment.

Through regular reporting, we want to create transparency, enable comparability, seek dialogue with our stakeholders, document important results and promote sustainable development.

The most important instrument of our sustainability communication is the annual sustainability report to inform our stakeholders about developments.
Sustainability brochure
Sustainability has a high priority in the IBB Group. Therefore, we actively promote the sustainable development of Berlin. How do we contribute? What are we planning? We show our way to the "Impact Bank Berlin" in our sustainability brochure.
